“मैं तुम्हें पुत्र का आशीर्वाद दे सकता हूँ, पर उसकी कीमत सत्य और साहस से चुकानी होगी।”
राजा-रानी ने विनम्र होकर शर्तें जाननी चाहीं। तांत्रिक ने कहा:
“राजा को सात दिन जंगल में बिना किसी सुरक्षा के साधना करनी होगी। रानी को महल में रहकर आत्म संयम की अग्नि परीक्षा देनी होगी।”

राजा चंद्रकेतु जंगल चले गए। वहाँ उन्होंने तंत्र-मंत्र, ध्यान और तपस्या की प्रक्रिया शुरू की। हर रात कोई रहस्यमयी शक्ति उन्हें विचलित करती। कभी डरावने सपने, तो कभी पशु-रूप वाले प्रेत।
उधर, महल में रानी यशोदा को चुपचाप काले वस्त्रों वाली स्त्री दिखती। वह आवाज़ देती – “तेरा राजा लौटेगा नहीं! मुझे स्वीकार कर ले, सब सुख दूँगी।”
लेकिन रानी ने मंत्र जाप और विश्वास से खुद को बचाया।
अंतिम दिन और तांत्रिक का रूपांतरण
सातवें दिन तांत्रिक स्वयं प्रकट हुआ। उसने कहा:
“राजा-रानी, तुमने तंत्र के रास्ते को शुद्ध करके दिखा दिया। अब तुम्हें केवल संतान ही नहीं, ज्ञान और शक्ति भी प्राप्त होगी।”
तांत्रिक अपने असली रूप में प्रकट हुआ – वह कोई और नहीं, स्वयं शिव का गण था, जो राजा की परीक्षा लेने आया था।
