हाथी और चूहे – पंचतंत्र की कहानी (हिंदी में)
बहुत समय पहले, एक हरे-भरे जंगल में हाथियों का झुंड रहता था। पास में एक पुराना, वीरान गाँव था जहाँ कई चूहे अपना घर बनाए हुए थे।
गर्मी का मौसम आने पर जंगल का तालाब सूख गया। पानी की तलाश में हाथी हर रोज़ उसी वीरान गाँव से होकर पास की नदी तक जाते थे। लेकिन हाथियों के बड़े-बड़े पाँव से रास्ते में कई चूहे कुचलकर मर जाते थे।
चूहों के राजा ने अपने साथियों से कहा,
“अगर ऐसा ही चलता रहा तो हमारा पूरा वंश नष्ट हो जाएगा। हमें हाथियों से बात करनी होगी।”
🤝 मित्रता का प्रस्ताव
चूहे राजा, अपने साथ कुछ चूहों को लेकर हाथियों के राजा के पास गया और विनम्रता से बोला,
“महाराज, हम छोटे और कमजोर हैं, लेकिन हमारी भी ज़िंदगी उतनी ही मूल्यवान है जितनी आपकी। कृपया हमारे घरों के ऊपर से न गुज़रा करें, नहीं तो हमारे लिए जीना मुश्किल हो जाएगा।”
हाथियों के राजा ने दया दिखाते हुए कहा,
“तुमने सही कहा। हम अब तुम्हारे घरों से होकर नहीं गुजरेंगे।”
दोनों में मित्रता हो गई।

कुछ महीनों बाद, गाँव के पास शिकारियों ने हाथियों को पकड़ने के लिए गहरे गड्ढे खोदकर जाल बिछा दिया। कई हाथी उसमें फँस गए और निकल नहीं पा रहे थे।
हाथियों के राजा को चूहे मित्र याद आए। उसने तुरंत संदेश भेजा।
चूहों का झुंड वहाँ पहुँचा और अपने तेज़ दाँतों से रस्सियाँ काट दीं।
जल्द ही सारे हाथी आज़ाद हो गए।
