मथुरा के पास एक छोटा-सा गांव था नंदपुर। यहां की सबसे बड़ी पहचान थी जन्माष्टमी का भव्य मेला, जहां हर साल लोग श्रीकृष्ण की झांकी देखने दूर-दूर से आते थे।

इस साल, मेला शुरू होने से कुछ दिन पहले, गांव के प्रसिद्ध कुम्हार गोपीनाथ की तबीयत बिगड़ गई। वही हर साल श्रीकृष्ण की मिट्टी की मूर्ति बनाता था।
गांव वाले चिंतित थे — बिना मूर्ति के जन्माष्टमी अधूरी हो जाएगी।
गोपीनाथ ने अपनी छोटी बेटी राधिका से कहा,
“बिटिया, अगर मैं मूर्ति पूरी ना कर सका, तो कान्हा को नाराज़ मत होने देना।”
राधिका का संकल्प
राधिका सिर्फ 12 साल की थी, लेकिन बचपन से पिताजी को मूर्ति बनाते देखती आई थी। उसने निश्चय किया कि वो ही इस बार मूर्ति बनाएगी।
रात-दिन वो मिट्टी गूंथती, आकार देती, और कान्हा की छवि उकेरती रही। लेकिन जैसे-जैसे मेला नज़दीक आता गया, मूर्ति का चेहरा बनाना उसके लिए कठिन होता गया।
रहस्यमयी आगंतुक
जन्माष्टमी से एक रात पहले, राधिका आंगन में बैठी रो रही थी। तभी एक साधारण-सा लड़का आया, जिसने मुस्कुराकर कहा,
“अगर मैं मदद कर दूं, तो क्या तुम मुझे माखन खिलाओगी?”

He told his little daughter Radhika,
“If I can’t finish the idol, don’t let Kanha be upset.”
Radhika’s Resolve
Only 12 years old, Radhika had grown up watching her father work. She decided she would make the idol herself.
She worked day and night, moulding the clay. But as the fair drew near, she struggled to carve Krishna’s face perfectly.
The Mysterious Visitor
The night before Janmashtami, Radhika sat crying in the courtyard. Suddenly, a simple boy appeared and smiled,
“If I help you, will you give me some butter?”
She laughed and agreed. The boy sat beside her and began shaping the idol’s face. His touch brought life into the clay.
When the idol was complete and Radhika went to fetch water, she returned to find the boy gone — but the idol’s eyes were strikingly alive.
The Miracle
The next day, during the Janmashtami aarti, Gopinath said,
“It’s as if Kanha himself came and made this idol.”
Radhika simply smiled at the sky — as if she knew exactly who had visited her last night.
