बीट्स ऑफ़ द ड्रम (सियार और ढोल) – पंचतंत्र कहानी (हिंदी)
बहुत समय पहले की बात है। एक घने जंगल में एक भूखा सियार भोजन की तलाश में इधर-उधर भटक रहा था। कई दिनों से उसे कोई शिकार नहीं मिला था। भूख के कारण उसकी हालत बहुत खराब हो गई थी।
अजीब आवाज़ की गूंज
भटकते-भटकते अचानक सियार को जंगल के बीच से “ढम-ढम” जैसी आवाज़ सुनाई दी। वह डर गया और सोचने लगा –
“हे भगवान! यह कैसी भयानक आवाज़ है? कहीं कोई बड़ा राक्षस तो नहीं?”
डर के कारण उसका दिल जोर-जोर से धड़कने लगा।
सियार का डर
सियार ने पहले तो वहाँ से भाग जाने का सोचा, लेकिन फिर मन ही मन कहा –
“अगर बिना देखे ही भाग जाऊँ तो शायद मैं कोई अवसर खो दूँ। चलो, हिम्मत करके देखते हैं कि यह आवाज़ आखिर किस चीज़ की है।”
ढोल का रहस्य
सियार धीरे-धीरे आवाज़ की दिशा में आगे बढ़ा। वहाँ पहुँचकर उसने देखा कि एक बड़ा ढोल सूखी डाल पर लटक रहा है। जब हवा चलती तो डाल हिलती और ढोल से “ढम-ढम” की आवाज़ निकलती।
अब सियार की आँखें चमक उठीं। उसने राहत की साँस ली और कहा –
“तो यह डरावनी आवाज़ तो सिर्फ ढोल की थी, जिसे मैं राक्षस समझ बैठा था।”
अनपेक्षित इनाम
ढोल के पास ही सियार को थोड़ी दूरी पर एक पेड़ दिखा, जिस पर मीठे फल लगे थे। वह खुशी-खुशी उन फलों को खाने लगा। उसकी भूख भी मिट गई और डर भी खत्म हो गया।

Beats of the Drum (The Jackal and the Drum) – Panchatantra Story (English)
Long ago, in a dense forest, a hungry jackal was wandering in search of food. For many days, he had not found anything to eat, and his condition had become very weak.
The Strange Sound
Suddenly, he heard a loud “Dham-Dham” sound echoing through the forest. The jackal got frightened and thought –
“Oh no! What is this terrifying noise? Could it be a monster?”
Fear gripped his heart, and he wanted to run away.
The Jackal’s Fear
At first, the jackal decided to escape, but then he thought –
“If I run away without checking, I might miss something important. Let me gather courage and see what it really is.”
The Mystery of the Drum
As he cautiously moved forward, he found a large drum tied to a dry branch. Whenever the wind blew, the branch shook, and the drum made the “Dham-Dham” sound.
The jackal sighed with relief and said –
“So, it was just a drum making all this noise, not a monster.”
An Unexpected Reward
Nearby, he saw a tree full of sweet fruits. Happily, he ate the fruits, filled his stomach, and felt peaceful again.
Moral of the Story
- Fear without reason is foolishness.
- Truth is revealed only when we face our fear.
- Most fears are just illusions created by our mind.
