राजा और चोर की कहानी – सज़ा नहीं, सुधार की मिसाल
चोर की गिरफ्तारी
बहुत समय पहले की बात है, धर्मगढ़ राज्य में एक चोर था जिसका नाम था वीरू। वीरू बहुत चालाक था। वह केवल अमीरों के घर चोरी करता और कभी पकड़ा नहीं जाता।
राजा समरवीर सिंह को जब यह बात पता चली, तो उन्होंने सिपाहियों को विशेष आदेश दिया –
“इस चोर को पकड़ो, लेकिन मारो मत। मैं उससे खुद बात करना चाहता हूं।”
कुछ ही दिनों में वीरू पकड़ा गया और दरबार में लाया गया।
राजा की बुद्धिमानी
राजा ने वीरू से पूछा,
“तू चोरी क्यों करता है?”
वीरू बोला,
“गरीबी के कारण शुरुआत की थी, लेकिन अब ये आदत बन गई है। सजा तो तय है राजा साहब, दे दीजिए।”
पर राजा ने कुछ अलग सोचा।
उन्होंने कहा,
“सजा नहीं दूँगा। तुझे 30 दिन का समय देता हूँ। हर दिन तू मेरे दरबार में एक अच्छी बात, एक सीख और एक ईमानदार काम करके दिखाएगा। अगर 30 दिन पूरे हुए और तू बदल गया, तो तुझे माफ़ किया जाएगा।”
बदलाव की शुरुआत
शुरुआत में वीरू को मुश्किल हुआ। लेकिन धीरे-धीरे:
- उसने महल के बाग़ की देखभाल शुरू की,
- अनाथ बच्चों को कहानियाँ सुनाईं,
- गाँव के गरीबों को अपनी जमा पूंजी से खाना बाँटा।
हर दिन राजा उसकी प्रगति देखते और मुस्कराते।
जनता की प्रतिक्रिया
धीरे-धीरे पूरा राज्य बदलते हुए चोर को देखने लगा।
लोगों ने कहा,
“राजा ने जो किया, वो कोई और नहीं कर सकता था। उसने एक चोर को इंसान बना दिया।”
अंतिम दिन
30वें दिन राजा ने पूछा,
“अब क्या करेगा?”
वीरू की आँखों में आँसू थे।
“अब मैं वो करूँगा जो आपने सिखाया – लोगों की सेवा, ईमानदारी से जीना और किसी को नुकसान न पहुंचाना।”
राजा ने घोषणा की:
“आज से वीरू हमारे राज्य का नैतिक शिक्षक बनेगा।”
कहानी से सीख
- हर अपराधी को एक मौका सुधार का मिलना चाहिए।
- सजा देना आसान है, पर परिवर्तन लाना सबसे बड़ा काम है।
- एक अच्छा राजा वही होता है जो बुद्धि और करुणा से निर्णय ले।

The Capture
Long ago in the kingdom of Dharmgarh, lived a clever thief named Veeru. He only stole from the rich and had never been caught.
When King Samarveer Singh heard about it, he gave a unique order:
“Catch the thief, but don’t harm him. I want to talk to him myself.”
Within days, Veeru was caught and brought to the royal court.
A King’s Wisdom
The king asked,
“Why do you steal?”
Veeru replied,
“It began due to poverty, but now it’s a habit. I deserve punishment.”
But the king had another idea.
“I will not punish you,” he said.
“Instead, I give you 30 days. Each day you must do one honest act, learn one life lesson, and share one good thought. If you succeed, I’ll forgive you.”
A Journey of Change
At first, Veeru struggled. But soon, he:
- Started tending the royal gardens,
- Told stories to orphans,
- Used his savings to feed the poor.
The king watched silently, proud of Veeru’s transformation.
The People React
Soon the people of Dharmgarh began to notice the change.
They said,
“Our king didn’t just punish a thief, he built a good man.”
Veeru became an example of how kindness and guidance can shape lives.
Day 30 – The Decision
On the final day, the king asked,
“What will you do now?”
Tears in his eyes, Veeru said,
“Live honestly. Help others. And never walk the wrong path again.”
The king announced,
“From today, Veeru shall be the moral teacher of our state.”
Moral of the Story
- Every wrongdoer deserves a chance to change.
- Punishment may silence, but only love reforms.
- A true king is one who rules not just the land, but also hearts.
