बहुत समय पहले, एक बड़े राज्य में एक बलशाली सिंह जंगल का राजा था। उसके दरबार में कई जानवर मंत्री और सेवक के रूप में रहते थे – जैसे कि लोमड़ी, भेड़िया और चीता। वे सब राजा की सेवा करते और जंगल पर शासन में मदद करते।
🐪 ऊँट का आगमन
एक दिन, जंगल में रास्ता भटककर एक ऊँट आ गया। वह थका-हारा और भूखा था। सिंह ने उसकी स्थिति देखकर उससे पूछा –
“तुम कौन हो और यहाँ कैसे आए?”
ऊँट ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा –
“मैं इंसानों के गाँव से भटककर यहाँ आ गया हूँ। अगर आप अनुमति दें तो मैं आपकी सेवा करना चाहता हूँ।”
राजा सिंह ने उसकी वफादारी और सादगी देखकर उसे अपने दरबार में स्थान दिया।
दरबारी जानवरों की चालाकी
राजा सिंह अक्सर शिकार करके अपने सेवकों को खिलाता था। लेकिन एक दिन राजा घायल हो गया और शिकार पर नहीं जा सका।
भूखे दरबारी जानवर सोचने लगे –
“अब हमें भोजन कहाँ से मिलेगा? क्यों न इस ऊँट को मारकर खा लिया जाए।”
वे सब मिलकर सिंह के पास गए और बोले –
“महाराज, आपके लिए भोजन का एक उपाय है। ऊँट मोटा-ताज़ा है, उसे खा लिया जाए।”
सिंह ने गुस्से से कहा –
“ऊँट ने शरण ली है, वह मेरा मेहमान है। मैं किसी भी हाल में उसकी हत्या नहीं करूँगा।”
ऊँट की वफादारी
चालाक जानवरों ने योजना बनाई। वे सबने बारी-बारी से राजा से कहा –
“महाराज, आप हमें खा लीजिए, हम आपके सेवक हैं।”
यह सुनकर भोला ऊँट भी बोला –
“हे स्वामी! मैं भी आपकी सेवा में अपना जीवन अर्पण करता हूँ। आप चाहें तो मुझे खा सकते हैं।”
सच्चाई का परिणाम
ऊँट की सच्ची निष्ठा और वफादारी देखकर सिंह का दिल पसीज गया। उसने कहा –
“नहीं! ऊँट मेरा सबसे वफादार सेवक है। वह मेरे दरबार का हिस्सा रहेगा और हमेशा सम्मान पाएगा।”
इसके बाद सिंह ने आदेश दिया कि कोई भी जानवर कभी भी ऊँट को नुकसान नहीं पहुँचाएगा।

Raja’s Choice (The Loyal Camel) – Panchatantra Story (English)
Long ago, in a dense forest, there lived a mighty lion, the king of the jungle. In his court, many animals served him faithfully – including a fox, a wolf, and a leopard.
Arrival of the Camel
One day, a camel lost its way from the village and wandered into the forest. Tired and hungry, it bowed before the lion and said –
“I belong to men, but I am lost. If you allow, I wish to serve you.”
The lion was impressed by his simplicity and loyalty, and he welcomed the camel into his court.
The Cunning Courtiers
The lion often hunted and fed his courtiers. But one day, the lion was injured and could not hunt.
The hungry courtiers thought –
“Why not kill this camel for food?”
They went to the lion and suggested –
“O King, the camel is fat and healthy. Let us eat him.”
The lion roared in anger –
“No! He has taken refuge in my court. He is my guest. I will never harm him.”
The Camel’s Loyalty
The cunning animals then made a plan. One by one, they offered their lives to the king, pretending to be loyal.
Seeing this, the innocent camel also stepped forward and said –
“My Lord, I too offer my life for your service. You may eat me if you wish.”
The Result of True Loyalty
Hearing the camel’s selfless words, the lion was deeply moved. He declared –
“No! The camel is my most loyal companion. From today, he will live under my protection with full honor.”
Thus, the camel lived safely in the jungle, respected by all.
